Umno Youth Is Alcohol Good For People Now Putrajaya
Umno Youth today demanded that the government explain why it decided to maintain the practice of allowing alcoholic beverages to be served during events held in Chinese school compounds.
Party wing chief Dr Akmal Saleh said they will continue to support the earlier position taken by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who prefers for alcohol not to be served on school grounds.
"We stand firm behind the prime minister's original position that educational institutions should not be allowed to become places where alcohol is consumed, and no educational institution should be exempt from this!
"I also want to ask the government to explain why the prime minister's original position was not taken and applied?
ADS"Does the government hold the view that alcoholic beverages can bring benefits to the people in terms of health or social well-being?" he asked in a statement on Facebook this morning.
Akmal, who is a Malacca state executive council member, condemned the decision, pointing out that the country is still addressing the drink driving problem and that people need to be educated on the dangers of consuming alcoholic drinks.

He added the government should not make a "wrong decision" just for the sake of securing votes.
"For the sake of our future generations, do not make wrong decisions just because you’re afraid of losing votes.
"If you want to drink alcohol or get drunk until you foam at the mouth, go find somewhere else!
"Don’t raise a generation that will be like that particular drunkard minister!" Akmal said.
Serving alcohol on school grounds
Anwar, on Thursday, said he would rather alcohol not be served on school grounds.
This came after an opposition MP raised an issue of alcohol being served at a recent alumni gathering held at St Michael’s Institution in Ipoh.
However, a day later, the cabinet in its weekly meeting decided to maintain the existing rules regarding alcoholic beverages at Chinese school halls.
The decision means alcoholic beverages could continue to be served when the halls are rented out to the public for events that do not involve students. - Mkini
