Umno Top Leaders To Decide On Early Ge Says Zahid

The top leadership and Umno Supreme Council will study all proposals put up by its divisions, especially on the motion to hold early general election, said its president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He said the headquarters would look into how many were calling for early general election and the leadership could not make any conclusion today as many meetings have not completely ended.
“All proposals would be collated before being tabled to the top five party leaders for us to table them to Umno Supreme Council before any decision could be taken,” he said.    
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Bagan Datuk MP, was speaking at a media conference after officiating the 2021 Bagan Datuk Umno division delegates meeting today.
Meanwhile, he said Umno is placing its confidence in Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who is also the party vice-president, to make a decision on holding the 15th general election (GE15) based on the resolutions decided by the Supreme Council.
Zahid wants early GE
Ahmad Zahid said the resolution would be based on the voices of the grassroots, including members of the Pemuda and Puteri wings which have proposed that GE15 be held next year, before the term of Parliament ends in 2023.
He said 176 Pemuda Umno divisions, as well as 171 Puteri Umno divisions from 191 Umno divisions nationwide, agreed with the proposal.
In this regard,  Ahmad Zahid said the delay in holding GE15 would make it difficult for Umno to fend off various allegations and slanders as happened in GE14.
"Let the government carry out many changes but the centre of gravity sentiments when accused incessantly would shift and many including voters would believe and the government would find it hard to defend.
