Umno S The One Pressing Pm For Early Polls But Dap Gets Blame Loke
DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke expressed puzzlement over Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob training his guns on the opposition party when it is Umno that is pressing him for early polls.
"The ones pressuring the prime minister to dissolve Parliament are Umno leaders, but DAP is the one getting the blame," Loke (above) said in a statement.
This was after Ismail Sabri said while he can advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to dissolve Parliament, the power ultimately lies with the monarch.
Therefore, the premier said he did not want to overstep the ruler's power and went on to suggest that DAP may not have the same respect.
Loke said DAP has never disputed the Agong's power to dissolve Parliament which is enshrined in the Federal Constitution.
"What I criticised was the prime minister's inconsistent statement and message.
"I have never asked the prime minister to set a date for the dissolution of Parliament," he added.
Prime Minister Ismail Sabri YaakobFlip-flop on GE15
Loke had criticised what he described as Ismail Sabri's "flip-flopping" on when the general election will be held. Ismail Sabri is an Umno vice-president.
The prime minister had recently downplayed early polls in an interview with Nikkei but later declared that he won't delay the polls if BN is prepared, after facing pressure from Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
"I feel Ismail Sabri's statement is directed to Umno leaders who have been pressuring him to dissolve Parliament.
"But he cannot say Umno leaders are disrespectful of the Agong so DAP becomes the victim of Umno's internal quarrel," Loke said. - Mkini
