Umno Resolute In Fighting For Najib Says Zahid
Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says the party remains resolute in fighting for its incarcerated former leader, Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
(NST) – “If anyone is still questioning our commitment, I want to assure you that the party remains steadfast in fighting for Najib’s fate and our efforts will never cease,” said Zahid in his speech at the 2024 Umno General Assembly today.
Zahid said they were unfettered even though some parties have questioned affidavits he and Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail filed on a purported Addendum Order from the former King allowing Najib to serve the rest of his sentence under house arrest.
“We will not stop until our Bossku (Najib) receives justice,” he said.
Previously, Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, confirmed the existence the alleged Addendum Order in an affidavit.
He claimed the document was shown to him by former Selangor Umno treasurer Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz at his house near Country Heights on Jan 30.
On Jan 29, Najib, the former Pekan member of parliament, applied to compel the government to produce the document, which he said had not been revealed by the authorities.
He named the Home Minister, the Commissioner General of the Prison Department, the Attorney-General, the Federal Territories Pardons Board, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform), the Director-General of the Legal Affairs Division and the government as respondents.
Najib was initially given a 12-year jail sentence and fined RM210 million after his conviction for corruption involving RM42 million of SRC International funds.
The former prime minister is currently serving his sentence in Kajang Prison.
Earlier this year, the Federal Territories Pardons Board, chaired by the then King, Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, halved Najib’s jail term and reduced his fine to RM50 million.
Najib has filed an appeal to serve out the remainder of his six-year jail sentence under house arrest, citing an alleged supplementary royal order signed by the former King allowing him to do so.
