Umno Leaders Drub Muhyiddin Saying Voting For Suhaizan Haram
Umno leaders have come to the defence of Pakatan Harapan’s candidate for Pulai, Suhaizan Kaiat, after Perikatan Nasional leader Muhyiddin Yassin declared it was “haram” to vote for him.
Muhyiddin made the remarks during a ceramah in Kempas last night while urging voters to show their anger to the government.
“Don’t give a single vote to Suhaizan. I will make an edict, (it is) haram,” he said.
Several audience members laugh in response.
Muhyiddin was aware that his remarks would be challenged.
“Tomorrow there will be those who challenge me asking which fatwa I followed (to make the edict),” he said.
Sure enough, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi asked Muhyiddin to explain this.
“I want to ask this person (Muhyiddin), which Quranic verse, hadith, qiyas (deductive work), or ulama consensus view (was used to make the edict)?” Zahid was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.
He added that when Muhyiddin was in government with Harapan, everything was “halal”.
Meanwhile, Johor Umno chief Khaled Nordin (above) also took a shot at the PN chief.
“He is the politician, he is the mufti. Next time, Malaysia not only does not need to have elections but also there is no need for Parliament to convene,” he tweeted.
Separately, Johor DAP vice chief Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali expressed concern that Muhyiddin’s remarks would encourage “extremism” and further divide the country.
Perikatan Nasional chairperson Muhyiddin YassinHe also said it went against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s decree that called for politics to be kept out of religion.
Rising cost of living, Malay power
In explaining his “edict”, Muhyiddin said last night it was because of the situation the country finds itself in after nine months under the Harapan-led coalition government.
One issue, he said, was the rising cost of living which he claimed remains unresolved.
During the ceramah, Muhyiddin also warned that Malays would lose power if PN did not win in Pulai.
This, he said, is because Pulai would give the government a two-thirds majority - which he claimed would be used to add more urban Parliament seats to DAP’s benefit.
Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil has denied that the government plans to increase the number of Parliament seats as alleged by Muhyiddin. - Mkini
