Inappropriate For Muhyiddin To Issue Haram Decree Suhaizan
JOHOR BY-ELECTIONS | Pakatan Harapan’s Pulai candidate Suhaizan Kaiat has chided Perikatan Nasional chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin who last night declared it was “haram” to vote for him.
Speaking to reporters at the Pulai MCA division office, Suhaizan said it was “inappropriate” for Muhyiddin to make such a claim that borders on making light of Allah’s decrees.
“Politically, I have no problem for him to not vote (support) me. That’s not a problem to me.
“But when he said ‘haram’ to support Suhaizan, I think that’s inappropriate because it’s as if making light of Allah’s decrees,” said Suhaizan (above).
“We can’t simply use the (haram) decree against our political opponents as it could have a negative impact.
“In future, anyone will think they can simply issue similar remarks,” said the Johor Amanah vice-chief, who was accompanied by MCA president Wee Ka Siong and the party’s machinery.
(L-R) MCA Women chief Wong You Fong, Pakatan Harapan Pulai candidate Suhaizan Kaiat, MCA president Wee Ka Siong.Muhyiddin made the remarks during a ceramah in Kempas last night while urging voters to show their anger to the government.
“Don’t give a single vote to Suhaizan. I will make an edict, (it is) haram,” he said.
The former prime minister was also reportedly aware that his remarks would be challenged.
In Simpang Jeram, Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh similarly said Muhyiddin should have not gone so far as to issue a “haram” decree against voting for Suhaizan.
Akmal said this was because many people will take Muhyiddin’s words seriously, given his status as a former prime minister.
“He (Muhyiddin) is a leader, and so when some people say he is just simply saying, as a leader and former prime minister, there will be people who take his words seriously.
Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh“I believe it is not our duty to declare something as haram or halal, without any basis, without any agreement from Muslim scholars,” Akmal told reporters after a Bakri Umno football match in Muar.
Earlier today, Johor Umno chief Khaled Nordin and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi separately defended Suhaizan against Muhyiddin’s remarks.
Johor DAP vice chief Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali also expressed concern that Muhyiddin’s remarks would encourage “extremism” and further divide the country. - Mkini
