Two Ex Student Activists Expected To Vie For Pkr Youth Chief Post
Two former student activists, Adam Adli and Fahmi Zainol, are expected to be competing for the PKR Youth chief post.
Malaysiakini learnt that Fahmi would pair with Rawang assemblyperson Chua Wei Kiat while Adam (above, left) would pair with lawyer Kamil Munim.
Both Chua and Kamil will contest for PKR Youth deputy chief position.
When asked, Fahmi (above, right) told Malaysiakini he would contest for PKR Youth Chief.
His team will announce their full line-up in a press conference on Mar 27 (Sunday) at Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall.
Meanwhile, Adam declined to comment on whether he will contest.
The 33-year-old former activist said he would announce before the nomination day if he decides to contest.
"For now, there is no announcement... I will let my companions decide. If I am going to contest, I will announce."
Adam facing a technical problem
Last September, PKR accepted 20 youth activists into the party, including Adam Adli.
A PKR source who is familiar with the issue told Malaysiakini that Adam is looking to be a PKR Youth chief candidate.
However, since Adam joined the party less than one year ago, he needs to apply for an exemption to participate in the party election.
Malaysiakini understands that the application is pending approval from party president Anwar Ibrahim and the party election committee.
Adam started as a student activist during his years in Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI). He first came into the spotlight about 10 years ago when he and several other student leaders organised a protest over the uncertainty of posting for the teachers-to-be.
He had also been caught in several controversies, including when he lowered a flag depicting the then prime minister Najib Abdul Razak at the Umno headquarters during another student protest in Dec 2011.
Fahmi, 31, was a Universiti Malaya (UM) student leader and faced disciplinary action after inviting Anwar Ibrahim to give a speech in 2014.
He joined PKR in 2015 and is the current Penang PKR Youth chief. - Mkini
