Rafizi Aiming For Pkr S No 2 Post Can Create Split Warns Leader
Rafizi Ramli’s return to politics is welcomed, said a PKR Youth grassroot leader, but warned that the party vice-president might trigger a split if he goes ahead with plans to contest party’s number-two post.
Damansara PKR Youth vice-chief Syed Badli Syah Syed Osman in a statement today urged Rafizi to instead defend his vice-president post.
“I agree with Rafizi’s point in a talk show recently that there are weaknesses in PKR that should be acknowledged in heading towards the 15th general election.
“However, I am also concerned that if he is only returning to politics now to contest the party deputy president post, it can split the party because he has been missing for quite some time.
“There is no need for him to contest a higher post when he chose to abandon his duties after having been given the responsibility as PKR’s vice-president.
“Thus, I would like to suggest that Rafizi lower his ego for the sake of the party’s unity, by defending his vice-president post and taking on the job as PKR’s election director,” said Syed Badli, who is also a former PKR Youth national vice-chief.
Rafizi RamliHis statement came amid rising tension in PKR following Rafizi’s announcement that he is returning to active politics, including the intention to again contest the PKR number-two post in the party’s upcoming election.
Rafizi is expected to face at least two more contenders, including current PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and former aide to party president Anwar Ibrahim, Farhash Wafa Salvador Mubarak.
Syed Badli also expressed his belief that Saifuddin would better fit the deputy president job due to his experience and loyalty to the party.
However, the youth leader added, he is ready to support Rafizi too if the latter chooses to defend his vice-president post. - Mkini
