Umno Man Sorry For Dinosaur Post That Slighted Zahid

Malacca Umno Youth vice-chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has apologised for calling party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi a "dinosaur".
Akmal, while debating the president's policy speech at the Umno general assembly admitted that he was critical of Zahid (above) after BN's defeat in the 14th general election but was now full of praise after the coalition's series of recent electoral victories.
"Since 2018, Umno Youth was the one that had the most disagreements with the president.
"Personally, I made a general Facebook post about political dinosaurs. Honestly, the posting was not referring to Zahid but I was informed that he was slighted.
"I apologise to the president he was slighted," Akmal said in his address to the Umno general assembly in Kuala Lumpur today. He was representing Umno Youth.
He praised Zahid for not being vengeful, allowing him to become a candidate in last November's Malacca polls despite being "potty-mouthed".
"If the president was vengeful towards me for being potty-mouthed, I would not have become a candidate.
"This is his greatness, he is truly a gentleman," Akmal said. He added Zahid also allowed four Umno Youth candidates to contest in the Malacca polls, up from only two previously.
Akmal won the Merlimau state seat and was later appointed as the state executive councillor in charge of health.
He then put Zahid's association with the dinosaur analogy in a positive light.
"If I speak about dinosaurs, there is some truth. Because it is the dinosaur in our president that allowed him to devour two prime ministers from Bersatu.
"That, I stand by. For my other statements, I withdraw," he said.
He appeared to refer to the ousting of two governments. The first under Dr Mahathir Mohamad from 2018 to 2020, followed by Muhyiddin Yassin from 2020 to 2021.
Following the manoeuvring, Umno took over the premiership with the appointment of Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob in August last year.
The party also saw a resurgence, winning a two-thirds majority in the Malacca and Johor polls. - Mkini
