Truth Prevailed Ahmad Maslan Views Zahid S Dnaa As Positive
Umno supreme council member Ahmad Maslan is confident the latest development in Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s case will not have a negative impact on the twin by-elections in Johor.
On the contrary, he viewed the granting of a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) for the Umno president as something “positive”.
“Zahid’s case (decision) will have a positive impact because the truth has finally prevailed if we see it from that angle.
“I know that certain quarters see it from a negative angle,” he told reporters in Muar, Johor.
Describing himself as a “victim of tyranny” as well, Ahmad (above) recalled how he was hauled to court for receiving 1MDB funds.
“In the end, justice prevailed in Malaysia. Those who think otherwise (those who see it from a negative perspective) are wrong.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi“I wish to correct that perception because in the end, truth has prevailed and we have hope for the justice process in Malaysia because the wrong was righted. The tyranny was brought to an end.
“Those who have not gone up and down the court staircase will not feel it. I went up and down the court staircase for two years,” he added.
In September 2021, Ahmad was acquitted of charges of money laundering and giving a false statement after he agreed to pay a compound of RM1.1 million.
As for Zahid’s case, one of the 11 grounds cited by the prosecution to withdraw the 47 charges was the issue of him being a victim of selective prosecution.
‘Joyous news’
Expressing gratitude over the outcome, Ahmad described the DNAA as “joyous news” for Malaysians as well as for those “who value justice and abhor tyranny.”
“For those who like tyranny and dislike justice, this (DNAA) will be considered as something not good,” he added.
Responding to those demanding an explanation from the AGC, the Umno supreme council member said the prosecution had revealed the reasons in court.
“They (the AGC) have... highlighted the 11 reasons (for the DNAA).
“The AGC also came out with a brief press release saying that the arguments were accepted by the (Kuala Lumpur High Court),” he added. - Mkini
