KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic on several major highways across Peninsular Malaysia began to build up this morning as travellers hit the road ahead of the Deepavali celebrations.
The Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) Traffic Management Centre said the number of vehicles had started to rise since early morning along several main routes, particularly those heading north, east, and south.
In a Facebook post, it said traffic on the North–South Expressway (PLUS) northbound was reported to be moving slowly from Sungkai to Bidor and from Bidor to Tapah due to the increased volume of vehicles.
"An earlier accident at KM349.2 of the same expressway also contributed to the congestion, although clean-up works were completed at about 8.38am.
"In the southern region, slow traffic was reported at the Johor Causeway heading from Woodlands to Johor Baru, and along the Malaysia–Singapore Second Link (Linkedua) northbound from Tuas to the Sultan Abu Bakar CIQ Complex," it said.
Meanwhile, on the Kuala Lumpur–Karak Expressway (KLK) eastbound, traffic was moving slowly before the Gombak Toll Plaza towards Genting Sempah, while on the Seremban–Port Dickson Highway (SPDH) westbound, slow-moving traffic was detected before the Mambau Toll Plaza heading towards Port Dickson.
The MHA also advised highway users to plan their journeys carefully and ensure their vehicles are in good condition to avoid any untoward incidents. - NST
