"He should have just lodged a report against me and my brother, but he went as far as having our parents detained as well," said Muhd Ikhwan Alif Ishak, the brother-in-law of influencer and entrepreneur Syed Muhammad Syah Hasif Syed Othman, also known as Prince Syed.
The 22-year-old Ikhwan Alif was one of four family members arrested to assist a police investigation involving Prince Syed.
The others detained were Ikhwan Alif's mother, Aminah Haniffa, 55; father, Ishak Saif, 59; and elder brother, Muhd Syahmi Faiz, 31.
All four, who were arrested on Sunday following an alleged attack on Prince Syed, were released from the South Klang District Police Headquarters lock-up at about 7pm yesterday.
Ikhwan Alif admitted that he lost control of his emotions, which led to the incident seen in a viral video.
The domestic dispute involving Prince Syed, his wife Fatin Syazwani, and her family has spiralled into one of the country's most talked-about viral controversies.
He said he was distressed that his mother had travelled from afar but was still denied the chance to visit his sister, Fatin Syazwani Ishak, 27, who is reportedly receiving treatment at a hospital in Selangor.
"Why do that? If he didn't want all of us to visit her, at least allow our mother. Now she feels heavy-hearted to return to our hometown because she still hasn't seen my sister.
"It has been a month since she last spoke to her. I wasn't actually angry but disappointed because my mother misses my sister so much," he said when contacted by Harian Metro.
The third of five siblings, Ikhwan Alif said he and Prince Syed previously had a close relationship.
"I respected and cared for him deeply. He is not a bad person. He has his good qualities.
"But what he did to my sister has made me hold this resentment for some time. These matters could have been discussed properly. Instead, he disappeared and prevented us from seeing her.
"Even if he had informed us earlier about the surgery, we would not have objected. Why hide it? Why hide her condition?" he said.
Ikhwan Alif said this was his first time being held in a lock-up and that he was relieved to have been released with his family.
"All four of us were held in the same cell. It was our first time experiencing this.
"We are returning to our hometown today, but before that, I hope my brother-in-law will allow my mother to meet my sister. That is all we ask.
"I hope he changes and returns to how he used to be, because we truly care for him.
"And to my sister, I want her to realise that we have sacrificed for her — even to the extent of our parents being detained. Can she not see that?" he said.
It was reported that the family of four were being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon, and Section 427 for mischief. - NST
