Bersatu information chief Razali Idris said MCA and Gerakan should consider merging to avoid fighting for the same seats.PETALING JAYA: Bersatu and PAS leaders are open to having MCA join Perikatan Nasional to give DAP a run for its money in the next general election.
Bersatu information chief Razali Idris said Gerakan and MCA would be able to wrest the non-Malay seats from DAP, especially in Chinese-majority areas, if the two parties were part of the same team.
“If MCA intends to leave Barisan Nasional, they will have our full support to work with Gerakan,” he told FMT.
Razali, however, believes the two parties should consider merging to avoid fighting for the same seats.
“They could also promote a single ideology to attract non-Malay voters.”
Razali was responding to MCA president Wee Ka Siong who yesterday said the party would not hesitate to “go solo” if Umno was still adamant about working with DAP in the next general election.
Gerakan president Dominic Lau has since said the party was open to working with any party including MCA as long as the Chinese-based party could accept PN’s ideology.
Wanita PAS chief Nuridah Salleh, meanwhile, said it was too early to talk about the possibility of MCA joining PN, adding that such matters must be discussed by the coalition’s leadership.
