Designed by Peter Braithwaite Studio, the residence responds to its dramatic setting with formal clarity, structural ambition and a strong sense of place. With sweeping ocean vistas and exposure to storm-driven weather, the design does not shy from the elements—instead it embraces them, marrying the rawness of the coast with the precision of minimalist architecture.
Architecture in Dialogue with Nature The house’s composition is distilled into two principal gabled forms elevated above the terrain. These volumes sit on sturdy stilts, a deliberate strategy to protect the home from storm surge and high tide. The choice not only allows waves or floodwaters to pass beneath, but also aesthetically lifts the architecture—to hover, almost lightly—above the landscape.
The material palette reinforces this dialogue: weathered cedar cladding references driftwood and fishing-shack tradition; dark steel and exposed concrete speak to industrial robustness and the visual scale of maritime infrastructure. Inside, warm wood finishes and generous glazing draw the exterior in, offering expansive views while creating spaces of calm and retreat.
