Those At Penang Cm Event Told To Limit Movement Over Covid 19 Fears
Attendees at Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow’s press conference yesterday have been advised to limit their movements over concerns about Covid-19.
In a statement today, Chow said the Penang Health Department has confirmed that one of the media workers who attended the press conference at his office has been identified as a close contact of a Covid-19 case who tested positive today.
“All individuals at the press conference are advised to limit their movements outside, remain at home if there is no need to go out, and follow standard operating procedures at work or when in public.
“The Penang Health Department has informed that quarantine orders will only be issued if the close contact is confirmed to have Covid-19.
“The Penang Health Department will remain in close communication with the Chief Minister’s Office regarding the result of the test (for the close contact) and further developments from time-to-time,” he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, Kelab Media Mutiara reportedly said in a statement that the media worker involved was a videographer working for a local media agency, whose last assignment was Chow's press conference.
According to Sinar Harian, the press club said the videographer is a club member and has been ordered to undergo mandatory quarantine after a housemate tested positive for Covid-19. The result of the videographer's Covid-19 test is still pending.
In light of this, club president Imran Hilmy Tawfik Hilmy was quoted as saying that all club activities have been suspended for the time being.
There are currently 287 active Covid-19 cases in Penang, including 13 that were reported today.
Of the active cases, 182 were attributed to the Seberang Perai Prison cluster and another 63 to the Remand Prison cluster. That leaves 42 active cases in the state that are outside these prison clusters. - Mkini
