Selangor Sultan Concerned Over Rise In Covid 19 Cases And Water Disruption In The State
KLANG: Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah is concerned with the increase in the number of new Covid-19 cases in Selangor and in the country as well as the water disruption faced by the people in the state.
"Following the new developments, His Highness is urging the people to continue adhering to the standard operating procedures and not disobey instructions issued by the Health Ministry and the National Security Council," said the Selangor palace in a statement Monday (Oct 19) signed by Sultan Sharafuddin's private secretary Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani.
Mohamad Munir said Sultan Sharafuddin also highly valued the efforts of the doctors and nurses as well as other frontliners who work hard to care for Covid-19 patients.
"In view of this, do not burden the frontliners because His Highness came to know there are many people who do not comply with instructions and the SOP that has been set," he said.
He added Sultan Sharafuddin specifically advised the people to continue being at home and not go out if there wasn't an urgent need to do so and to always wear a face mask when in public places.
Sultan Sharafuddin also urged individuals who had been to high-risk locations or places categorised as red zones to report themselves immediately to the nearest health centre to undergo a test and not to keep their health status under wraps.
The Ruler emphasised the current focus was to ensure the risk of infection can be decreased and eventually the spread of the pandemic eradicated from Malaysia.
On another matter, Sultan Sharafuddin was saddened by the plight of the state's people who are struggling with the Covid-19 pandemic and at the same time, faced with water disruption.
"His Highness has many times written to the Federal and state governments in regards to the water issue since 2010 for the matter to not be politicised," he said.
He added that the Ruler had requested both governments to counter the problem immediately as water was a basic necessity for the people.
"His Highness' latest letter dated Sept 8,2020, about the water disruption issue has been sent to the Mentri Besar," he said.
Sultan Sharafuddin had advised and given some recommendations as well as views in overcoming the water disruption but it appeared that it did not create any effect as the same problem still persisted and inconvenienced his subjects, he added. - Star
