Covid 19 Over 1 000 School Going Children Infected Since Outbreak Of Third Wave Says Health Dg

PUTRAJAYA: More than 1,000 school-going children have been infected with Covid-19 since the third wave of the outbreak in the country began a month ago.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said from Sept 20 to Oct 21, about 587 Covid-19 cases are pupils aged seven to 12.
Meanwhile, 670 positive cases are of those between the ages of 13 and 18.
“This is the number of cases affecting students during the third wave from Sept 20 to Oct 21.
“From the start of the outbreak in February, Covid-19 has infected 830 students aged seven to 12. For those aged 13 to 18, there are 1,315 positive cases in total,” said Dr Noor Hisham at the Health Ministry’s Covid-19 press conference here Thursday (Oct 22).
Dr Noor Hisham said the government has so far given orders to 12 schools in the country to be shut down following discoveries of Covid-19 cases among the students.
“If a student is infected with Covid-19, we will close their school for a week to undergo disinfection and sanitisation work. We will also conduct contact tracing activities.
“The infections are from outside but it could be spread in the schools,” said Dr Noor Hisham.
Dr Noor Hisham said since Sept 20, the government has closed 12 schools after discovering Covid-19 infections that are related to existing clusters.
Three schools in Negri Sembilan were closed due to cases related to the Cahaya cluster, Sofi cluster and the Bah Manggis cluster.
Another three schools in Johor were also ordered to shut after detecting cases linked to the Simera cluster and the Rinting cluster.
Kuala Lumpur has two schools closed due to the link to the Jalan Pantai cluster and Long cluster.
Penang, Melaka, Putrajaya and Sarawak each have a school ordered to shut after finding cases linked to the Alma cluster, Bukit cluster, Selasih cluster and Bah Arnab cluster respectively. - Star
