PKR Youth vice-chief Nabil Halimi today slammed businessperson Albert Tei for pleading not guilty to corruption charges in court.
In a statement, he pointed out that what Tei (above) did in court was contradictory to his previous statements made in public, and branded it as a "third-class acting" rather than an actual effort to fight corruption.
"He was comfortable speaking to the media, but lost all his courage when facing the law.
"It is an undeniable fact that Tei himself admitted to giving bribes, and he said this proudly when in front of the media, like asking to be praised as a hero who fights for reforms.
"However, when he went to court, he suddenly entered a not guilty plea. The simple question the rakyat is asking now is, did he suddenly lose his memory, principle, or courage when facing a real judge?" Nabil asked.
PKR Youth vice-chief Nabil HalimiThe youth leader claimed Tei's attack against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was just a desperate attempt to divert attention from his weakness and contradictions.
Previously, Tei, who exposed the Sabah mining scandal, insisted he is no hero and has challenged Anwar on whether the prime minister can claim the title either.
He emphasised that exposing the scandal was never about seeking praise, but a matter of desperation.
Tei’s remarks came in response to Anwar’s recent comments expressing concern over the trend of glorifying bribe givers. While the prime minister did not mention names or refer to the Sabah scandal, Tei is convinced he was the target.
He also questioned Anwar for sharing the stage with politicians implicated in the scandal, even treating them as allies.
‘Words cannot be trusted’
Nabil said Tei should stop playing the rakyat for a fool with his lousy acting.
"An admission outside the court but a denial inside the court shows only one thing - that his words cannot be trusted, and his integrity is at its lowest level. A genuine whistleblower does not change his stance depending on who is holding the microphone.
"Even more shameful, after creating his own chaos, he then tries to accuse the prime minister of supposedly being non-transparent or trying to cover something up. This is the old mahafiraun (dictatorial) tactic - when trapped, look for a scapegoat, and the easiest target is to link it to a prime minister who is firm in fighting corruption.
"Such behaviour is not only shallow, but reflects a glaring breakdown in logic. Someone who is inconsistent in his own personal statements is trying to lecture the country about integrity? I would like to remind him that this country has a legal system, not a drama stage," he added. - Mkini
