Suspect In Suke Highway Fatal Crash Surrenders To Cops

(Twitter pic)PETALING JAYA: The man who allegedly caused the crash which resulted in the death of a motorcyclist on the elevated Sungai Besi-Ulu Klang Expressway (SUKE) highway has surrendered himself to the police.
Ampang Jaya district police chief Azam Ismail said the 41-year-old suspect had come forward and lodged a report over the incident, at the Kajang traffic police station yesterday.
On Wednesday, FMT reported that a motorcyclist died after he crashed into the divider and fell over the exit ramp on the SUKE highway. He was said to have been trying to avoid another motorcycle which was going against the flow of traffic.
“Investigations found that the suspect was on his way home to Kajang from Ampang but had gotten lost and decided to enter the SUKE highway against the flow of traffic,” Azam said in a statement.
He added that the suspect collided with the victim, leading to him also falling off his motorcycle and breaking his right shoulder, a finger, and sustaining some bruises to his other shoulder and leg.
“The suspect went home after the incident and said that he only knew of the case after news had spread on television and social media,” he said.
According to Azam, the suspect, who is a food vendor residing in Kajang, has since been released temporarily to allow him to recover from the injuries sustained.
“A total of six witnesses, including the suspect, have had their statements recorded,” he said, adding a Yamaha motorcycle belonging to the suspect had also been seized.
Earlier today, the victim’s son, Hafidz Ahmad Fadzil, 36, urged the motorcyclist who caused the accident to step forward and apologise.
He told FMT he was upset that the motorcyclist fled the scene of the accident without helping his father, Ahmad Fadzil Omar Azzadin, 62. He also urged the rider to explain why he didn’t call an ambulance. - FMT
