Igp Cops To Seek Interpol S Assistance To Locate Comedian
The Royal Malaysia Police will seek Interpol's assistance to locate comedian Jocelyn Chia.
According to Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani, the application for assistance will be made tomorrow.
"The police have completed transcribing the suspect's speech in the video clip.
"On June 7, the police made an application for profiling from the Malaysia Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)," Acryl Sani told reporters after paying a visit to the Hospital Tuanku Ampuan Besar Tuanku Aishah Rohani in Kuala Lumpur today, reported Harian Metro.
According to the top cop, investigations into Chia’s (above) matter are being carried out under Section 504/505(c) of the Penal Code, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act. The former pertains to intentional insult/provocation and incitement, while the latter concerns improper use of network facilities or network services.
Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah SaniChia recently came under fire after mocking Malaysia and the MH370 tragedy in her stand-up routine titled “Singapore vs Malaysia” held in New York, United States. Clips of the show have gone viral online.
Following a backlash, Singapore’s High Commissioner to Malaysia Vanu Gopala Menon slammed Chia's “gratuitously offensive comments", saying her statement does not in any way reflect Singapore’s view.
Revealing that she was no longer a Singaporean (Chia is based in the US), Vanu Gopala also apologised to all Malaysians for the former's hurtful remarks.
In a recent interview with CNN, Chia reportedly claimed that the viral clip did not show the full routine, and as such, was taken out of context. - Mkini
