Student Laptop Deliveries Stagnant Pkr Mp Gives Minister Fail Mark

The delivery of 150,000 laptops to students as promised by the government appears to be stagnant, with less than 13,000 delivered six months into the year.
Commenting on this, Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil said the Education Minister Radzi Jidin's (above) delivery rate of 8.6 percent would be considered a "fail".
"The delivery has been abhorrent. If Radzi were to take a test, delivering 8.6 percent, in SPM that's a G, gagal (fail)," Fahmi told Malaysiakini.
In late April, the Cerdik programme said some 13,000 devices had been delivered, while Bernama cited Radzi as saying more than 13,000 laptops had been delivered.
The Cerdik programme also said it planned for 50,000 students to get devices by the end of May.
However, during his press conference today, the minister revealed that as of today 12,887 laptops and tablets were delivered to 95 schools.
Radzi added that another 40,290 devices will be channelled to students by June 12 at the latest, and that the remaining 96,823 laptops and tablets would be delivered by September.

Fahmi, however, is sceptical that the ministry can keep up with this timeline - comparing it to the slow rollout of vaccines in the country.
"They keep saying it's coming, but it's not," the PKR lawmaker said.
Fahmi said Radzi and the Education Ministry needed to go back to the drawing board to rethink the delivery mechanism for the Cerdik programme.
"Either that or Radzi should resign," he added.
School is currently on term break until June 14.
After that, schools will resume online classes for 25 days until the next school break.
However, many students will likely struggle to attend these online classes.
In an Utusan Malaysia report in February, the Education Ministry reported that 1.85 million students or 36.9 percent did not have devices for them to take part in online classes.
"A total of 150,000 devices (under the Cerdik programme) barely covers 10 percent," Fahmi said. - Mkini
