Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain has called on all parties to cease speculations that could compromise ongoing investigations over attacks on three national footballers, including any alleged royal link.
Berita Harian quoted Razarudin as dismissing claims made by “irresponsible parties” sharing speculations and slander, despite an active investigation that has yet to establish a motive behind the series of recent attacks against Akhyar Rashid, Faisal Halim and Safiq Rahim.
“There are those who said there was supposed involvement of the palace in this case, these should not happen because we (police) have yet to identify the real motive.
“The Criminal Investigations Department is working hard towards that, and earlier this evening, CID director Shuhaily Mohd Zain went to the scene of the attack against Faisal in Damansara,” he said, referring to an acid attack on Sunday which led the Harimau Malaya and Selangor FC player to suffer fourth-degree burns.
Razarudin reportedly named whistleblower Telegram channel Edisi Siasat as one of the “irresponsible parties” creating speculations on an alleged royal connection behind the attacks.
“Right now, irresponsible parties including the Telegram channel Edisi Siasat acted as if they have solved the case and served their own punishment by creating speculations, slander that we don’t know where they got it from,” Razarudin told reporters at the Defence Services Asia 2024 exhibition in Kuala Lumpur.
He also issued a stern reminder to the public over “false information” released by Edisi Siasat, as well as an individual who posted a series of Instagram stories using the name “Muhammad Imran Suresh” - both fuelling a grand conspiracy with alleged royal links.
Only two suspects in custody
In a recent message viewed over 50,000 times, Edisi Siasat claimed police had arrested a third suspect in connection with the attack against Faisal, and that the individual is a bodyguard of “J2”, believed to be in reference to a Johor royalty.
Razarudin, however, reportedly denied the arrest and said only two suspects are currently in police custody.
“Our current focus is to collect information, record witness statements and identify the motive of attacks in the three cases.
“I also urge all national footballers who received any threats to their safety or know of any information to inform the police swiftly,” he said.
Earlier today, the Malaysian Football League announced that Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) has been declared winner of the Charity Shield for the seventh consecutive time after Selangor FC (SFC) insisted on pulling out from the opening match of the Malaysia League that was supposed to take place at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri, Johor tomorrow.
On Tuesday, the SFC applied for the Charity Shield match to be postponed after the attack against Faisal. - Mkini
