Star Backs Hajiji Accuses Umno Of Hidden Hand
Following a call for chief minister Hajiji Noor to resign, a STAR leader says any interference will only spark political instability and ruin the state’s progress.
(FMT) – Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) has thrown its support behind Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor.
STAR deputy information chief Ardino Diris said calls for Hajiji to step down were politically motivated. He accused Umno of being the “hidden hand” in state politics.
Ardino’s statement came a day after Umno Youth treasurer Naim Kurniawan Moktar had urged Hajiji to resign while suggesting that STAR president Jeffrey Kitingan, who is deputy chief minister, be appointed interim chief minister.
Naim said “(Hajiji) must show leadership by resigning to pave the way for Jeffrey, who possesses credibility, integrity and a positive reputation”.
However, Ardino said Hajiji had proven himself as a strong and inclusive leader that had brought Sabah much-needed stability. “Attempts to create a rift in GRS (the state ruling coalition Gabungan Rakyat Sabah) will only weaken efforts to develop the state,” he said.
He said Sabah had the right to determine its own direction. “Any interference will only spark political instability and ruin the progress that we have achieved together,” he said.
“STAR strongly criticises any party that attempts to threaten the state government’s unity and stability. We call on all in GRS to unite and focus on their responsibility to the people of Sabah,” he said.
In calling for Hajiji’s resignation yesterday, Naim said there was a “crisis of integrity, reputation and credibility” around an alleged scandal involving Sabah Mineral Management which has implicated Hajiji, several state ministers, and GLC chairmen in Sabah.
Last month, former SMM CEO Jontih Enggihon said he had evidence to back his claim that Hajiji had abused his powers, including text messages from Hajiji, briefing notes and the minutes from the SMM board of directors meetings.
