Some Have Selective Memories Lam Thye Stands By Allegations

Former DAP veteran Lee Lam Thye is standing by his allegations that his decision to quit DAP 32 years ago was prompted by attempts to push him out of the Bukit Bintang constituency, where he served as MP for four terms.
He said he had no reason to fabricate stories about his departure from his former party, as told in his recent memoir.
“I can’t help it if some people have selective memories.
“I had said I quit the party because I was told by Lim (Kit Siang) that I would not be fielded to stand for the 1990 parliamentary elections in the Bukit Bintang constituency of which I was the MP for four terms,” Lee said, quoted by local daily The Star.
Lim today denied betraying his former party comrade, Lee, in the lead-up to the 1990 general election.
He called it a “big lie” and claimed that he did not know the real reason Lee quit politics in 1990.

Lim Kit SiangLee alleged that he was told by DAP leadership that they had identified a candidate to replace him in Bukit Bintang prior to his decision to quit the party.
This turned out later to be former MCA candidate Wee Choo Keong - who would also fall out of favour with the DAP leadership in 1998.
According to Lee, the move to push him to another unidentified seat was because his “non-belligerent” style of politics did not sit well with the party leadership.
It has been reported that Lim was among those he came into conflict with.
Lee said that if he had been allowed to remain as the candidate for the constituency, where he was confident of defending the seat, there would have been no reason for him to retire.
“This is the simple truth. There is no point belabouring this or prolonging the issue. It benefits no one. It belongs to the annals of history.
“As such, I wish to put this episode behind me. I did what I needed to do to set the record straight in the face of vicious rumours against me during the 1990 election.
“Let the people be the final judge on my character and integrity and my relationship with Lim,” he added. - Mkini
