Shame On You Pas Compares Anwar To Sanusi
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim should feel a sense of shame when compared to Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor who allocated funds to opposition representatives in the state unconditionally, said PAS.
Its information chief, Khairil Nizam Khirudin, said that Sanusi's move is evidence that the Kedah Perikatan Nasional (PN) government is serving the entire population regardless of their political background, race, or religion.
In a statement today, Khairil Nizam described the Kedah government's move as a "slap" to the Anwar-led administration, which still does not provide allocations to opposition parliamentarians.
"Anwar should be ashamed of himself... Sanusi (above) has demonstrated openness by providing unconditional allocations to all Kedah state assemblypersons, whereas the prime minister is still not open to doing the same for opposition parliamentarians.
"PAS also wants to remind the Madani government to not reach a point where these parliamentarians are included in the Suhakam report as individuals whose rights as duly elected representatives were violated," Khairil Nizam said.
PAS information chief Khairil Nizam KhirudinOn June 18, Anwar emphasised that the government has no malicious intent to withhold allocations from opposition parliamentarians.
However, Anwar stated that until now, opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin has not met with Deputy Prime Minister Fadhillah Yusof, who is responsible for managing the matter.
During the debate on the Suhakam 2020 annual report in the Dewan Rakyat on June 12, several PN leaders raised concerns about the government's discussion on the rights of others while opposition MPs are being denied their fundamental rights.
Tumpat MP Mumtaz Md Nawi highlighted that state officers under the opposition government were deprived of allocations and emphasised that they were consistently excluded from events organised by ministers in their respective states.
The report by Suhakam consists of seven chapters that provide details of activities carried out throughout 2020 as well as detailed administrative and financial reports for the year.
Among the areas that Suhakam touched on are human rights, Covid-19, Islam, Orang Asli, human trafficking, refugees, and asylum-seekers.
Meanwhile, Khairil Nizam commended Sanusi for his fair distribution of allocations to all state assemblypersons, irrespective of their political affiliation, and expressed PAS's appreciation for this inclusive approach.
"In presenting the Kedah state budget, the menteri besar has announced an annual allocation of RM50,000 for opposition state assemblypersons and RM2,000 per month for the management of their service centres," he said. - Mkini
