(Facebook pic)PETALING JAYA: A senior police officer who was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly protecting illegal activities around Kuala Lumpur has been transferred to another department.
It is understood that MACC found more than RM2 million in cash during raids on several premises believed to be owned by the officer stationed at the Kuala Lumpur criminal investigation department.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Isa said today the officer was released on MACC bail last Saturday pending the results of its investigation.
“The officer has returned to duty and we are placing him elsewhere while waiting for the results of the investigation,” said Rusdi in a Bernama report.
“The MACC’s investigation is ongoing, and the police are waiting for the results and a full report.”
Rusdi said the officer is being investigated under Section 17 of the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
He said that while the police had also conducted an internal investigation, it had yet to reach a conclusion.
Rusdi was speaking at a press conference at the Wangsa Maju police headquarters at a ceremony to mark Lazim Ismail’s appointment as Wangsa Maju police chief.
Lazim replaces Ashari Abu Samah, who will be transferred to the Alor Gajah police headquarters in Melaka.
On March 24, then Kuala Lumpur police chief Allaudeen Abdul Majid said any action the police will take against the officer will depend on the results of the MACC investigation.
“We are leaving it to MACC to conduct their investigation first, and then we will decide on what action to take against him,” he told Berita Harian. - FMT
