Macc Notices To Brothers Clearly State Probe Is On Dr M Mukhriz Claims

The MACC notices sent to two of Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s sons clearly state that the former premier is the subject of investigations, claimed his other son Mukhriz.
He added that the notices were signed by MACC chief Azam Baki.
“I saw for myself notices signed by Azam as MACC chief to both Mirzan and Mokhzani, in which early in the notice it states that an investigation is on Mahathir.
“After that, it states that both brothers were ordered to declare their assets to assist in investigations,” he was quoted as saying by Malaya Daily, a pro-right wing Malay groups portal.
He added that it was puzzling why the MACC was investigating the sons of their target.
Previously, Mokhzani and Mirzan told Bloomberg that their father is the real target of MACC’s string of investigations.
However, Azam skirted around the claim, saying he had to check the “facts” before getting back to the media.
In January, the MACC ordered both Mokhzani and Mirzan to declare their assets dating back to 1981, the year Mahathir became prime minister.
Both were known to be active in the business world and are reputed to have immense wealth.
While it did not reveal the extent to which the 98-year-old politician was being investigated, the MACC said the investigation was being carried out under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
The commission said it started an investigation in August 2022 against all related entities named in the Pandora Papers, as well as the Panama Papers.
The papers are part of investigations into offshore business records revealed by a journalism consortium. - Mkini
