Selangor Govt Doing Damage Control In Kg Papan Using Lies Arutchelvan

In a scathing criticism, PSM deputy chairperson S Arutchelvan accused the Selangor government of using lies to embark on a damage control effort over the demolition of Kampung Papan in Pandamaran, Klang.
“The menteri besar, (Selangor state executive councillor for housing) Borhan Aman Shah, and the entire Selangor state executive council… not a single person came to Kampung Papan in the last five days.
“The (Pandamaran) assemblyperson (Leong Tuck Chee) was the only one present, and even he was constantly complaining that the menteri besar was not responding,” Arutchelvan (above) said in a statement today.
Yesterday, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said the issue spiralled into a legal mess after those involved took it to court instead of reaching a compromise.
ADSHe said this ultimately derailed the state’s settlement attempt.
Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin ShariAmirudin also claimed that the developer was ready to provide an alternative site, but some decided to approach the court instead.
In a statement yesterday, Borhan claimed that the developer, during a meeting on Oct 21, had committed to demolishing only vacant homes at Kampung Papan.
However, he did not address the complaints and outrage of residents and activists over ground reports that even occupied homes were being razed.
‘Betrayed, ridiculed’
Arutchelvan further said that the Kampung Papan residents will hold a press conference on Monday to address some issues involving the residents.
“Not only have Kampung Papan residents been betrayed by the state government, they are also being ridiculed by the MB’s statement,” he added.
Yesterday, the court rejected the police’s remand applications for PSM members and activists who were arrested while protesting the demolition.
However, the reprieve was dampened by the arrest of six others yesterday, with those hauled up by police including PSM central committee member Chong Yee Shan, and Suaram documentation and monitoring coordinator Jernell Tan.
At around 5pm, all those detained by the authorities were released on police bail. - Mkini
