(Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Sarawak is seeking the approval of Brunei to reinstate a portion of the Pan Borneo Highway that will cut into the country, says deputy premier Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
Awang Tengah said he had conveyed the state’s wishes to Brunei during his recent visit, the Borneo Post reported.
“We must brief them so that we can cooperate with them.
“They need to be informed about our road connectivity development project so that we can cooperate with them just like the previous project which had been agreed to before it was cancelled by the Pakatan Harapan government,” he said.
In 2018, PH said the highway will not cut into Brunei due to cost and immigration factors.
The proposal for the Pan Borneo Highway to cut into Brunei will be implemented through the Sarawak coastal road development project.
During the meeting with the Brunei government, Awang Tengah said he also shared the proposed development of the northern coastal highway project.
“We also explained about our overall road connectivity in the northern area, including Sarawak inroad, the road to the Indonesian border.
“Especially on how this is going to be integrated with the proposed northern coastal highway that we are going to implement,” he said.
