Saifuddin No Compromise With Cops Keeping People From Making Reports

The Home Ministry will not compromise with any police personnel who attempt to bar members of the public from lodging a police report, said its minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
However, he told reporters that members of the public should still abide by dress codes that have been set.
“We consider the matter closed, meaning that we don’t agree with the actions of the personnel concerned. We don’t compromise when it comes to police preparedness to receive reports.
“However, at the same time, I think the public should also be aware there is an element in courtesy when conducting (official) business,” he said after an engagement session with the media in Putrajaya tonight.
He said this when asked to comment on an incident last month when a person was not allowed to enter the Kajang police district headquarters to lodge a police report after becoming involved in an accident.
According to Kajang OCPD Mohd Zaid Hassan, the woman in her 30s came to lodge a report about the accident but was wearing shorts. She was advised to return with clothing that is more suited for dealings in government premises.
“The woman was unhappy and initially refused to follow instructions and provoked the personnel on duty.
“The personnel once again courteously advised her to change into more suitable pants if she wanted to have dealings at a police station,” he said on Jan 31.
The woman then reportedly left the police station and returned about 15 to 20 minutes later wearing long pants.
Zaid’s statement contradicted an earlier report by Free Malaysia Today saying that the woman was wearing Bermudas that covered her knees. Zaid asserted that it was only long enough to cover her thighs.
He also said the Free Malaysia Today article had created a perception that the woman was refused entry despite wearing suitable clothes by accompanying the article with a photograph showing the woman after she had changed into “suitable pants”. - Mkini
