(Facebook pic)PETALING JAYA: Marang PAS Youth chief Yusuf Abdul Hadi says the police have recorded statements from several participants of the Himpunan Pemuda Islam Terengganu (Himpit) gathering.
In a Facebook post last night, Yusuf said replicas of swords, spears and shields which were used at a parade during the gathering in Setiu, Terengganu, had been handed to the police.
“Several participants have completed giving their statements to the police with regards to the replica swords and the military costume from the days of Prophet Muhammad.“Thanks to the police for their kind treatment and we will continue to cooperate with them. We also want to thank Malaysians who have supported us,” he wrote in his post.
Yusof said the use of the military costume and the replica weapons during the parade was not meant as a provocation, but rather a display of the Prophet’s greatness to his friends, who have carried the torch of Islam.
“We are saddened that the replicas and costumes which are supposed to be our pride as Muslims have been polemicised into one of fear and annoyance by fellow Muslims. (But), we (shall) surrender to Allah, and the fight continues.”
The parade, which was held last week, led to religious affairs minister Na’im Mokhtar saying the warlike posturing could give the wrong impression of Islam. It also drew brickbats from Pakatan Harapan and MCA.
Terengganu PAS Youth had defended the parade, saying it was similar to cosplay events held annually, and emphasised that it was never intended to incite violence. - FMT
