Sacking Supreme Council Members May Trigger Crisis In Umno Annuar

The sacking of an Umno supreme council member before the end of his tenure could potentially trigger a crisis in the party, warned Ketereh Umno chief Annuar Musa.
Taking to social media, the communications and multimedia minister said more party members will be removed as they are being labelled as political enemies.
This came after Pasir Salak MP Tajuddin Abdul Rahman informed in a letter dated June 21 of his removal from the supreme council.
"The dismissal of the supreme council members before the end of their term of service will only lead the party towards crisis and a split (in the party).
"This action contradicts the spirit and resolution of the Umno annual assembly and special general assembly.
"While there is a provision for the party to remove an appointed supreme council member, such action does not bring any good (to the party) and it is rarely done by any party president," Annuar (above) said.
Unheard of during Dr M’s time
Annuar pointed out that this was not practised during Dr Mahathir Mohamad's era when he helmed the largest Malay party.
Ex-PM Mahathir Mohamad"Under Mahathir's leadership, there were ministers, deputy ministers and supreme council members who openly opposed him, but none of them was dropped for not supporting the party president.
"However, this time a removal took place followed by another and it is understood that a few more names, who have been branded as political enemies, will be sacked.
"The political wheel keeps on spinning," added Annuar, who was also removed as BN secretary-general in January 2021.
Pasir Salak MP Tajuddin Abdul RahmanTajuddin has been elected to the Umno supreme council several times before. During the 2018 party election, he took a run for the vice presidency but was unsuccessful.
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi declined to explain why he decided to remove Tajuddin from the party’s supreme council.
He merely said Tajuddin knew what he had done to the party.
