Sabah Corruption Shafie Condemns Those Caught In Whistleblower S Clips
Warisan president Shafie Apdal today condemned the politicians implicated in videos a whistleblower released over the Sabah corruption scandal, comparing it to his arrest for questioning the 1MDB scandal.
ADS“The videos are out. I had no videos (but) I was arrested,” he said in a speech at a Warisan event in Papar, Sabah.
Shafie was referring to a series of videos that a whistleblower published on Malaysiakini showing eight Sabah assemblypersons allegedly discussing bribes.
He added that Sabahans are rising up due to the shame of seeing their elected representatives involved in such wrongdoings.
He said he was forced to live in a cell without material comforts for weeks after he criticised then-prime minister Najib Abdul Razak for the 1MDB controversy.
This was despite him being a former Umno vice-president as well as having served as the rural and regional development minister, he said.
‘Wearing a coat’
He also pointed to the MACC’s investigation into former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who is “wearing a coat” despite allegedly misappropriating RM100 million.
“I had to wear orange attire,” Shafie said.

Former premier Ismail Sabri YaakobIsmail Sabri is a suspect in the MACC’s probe into the expenditure and procurement of funds for promotional and publicity activities, under the Keluarga Malaysia initiative, during his tenure as prime minister, from August 2021 to November 2022.
On March 3, Azam said the Umno leader was a suspect in the probe, following the discovery of approximately RM170 million in various currencies and 16kg of gold bars in a safehouse during a MACC raid.
In February, Shafie questioned why nobody involved in the Sabah scandal had been arrested.
Following the emergence of the scandal late last year, after videos unleashed by the whistleblower implicated several state lawmakers, Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor suggested the clips could be related to political donations and reiterated that salaries alone were insufficient.
Hajiji has also accused the whistleblower of being part of a campaign to undermine his administration.
The 36-year-old businessperson, who claimed the assemblypersons accepted bribes in exchange for mineral exploration licences, is also accused of being part of a cartel aiming to monopolise mining activities in the state. - Mkini
