Sabah Cannot Emulate Sarawak S Local Only Party Model Says Salleh
Former chief minister Salleh Said Keruak says stability in the state is built through cooperation between BN, PH, and local parties.
Umno’s Usukan assemblyman Salleh Said Keruak said there have been attempts to create the ‘illogical’ perception that in Sabah, PH can be accepted but BN cannot. (Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Sabah cannot afford to follow Sarawak in shutting out national parties, former chief minister Salleh Said Keruak said today
The Usukan assemblyman said there had been attempts to create the “illogical” perception that in Sabah, Pakatan Harapan (PH) could be accepted but not Barisan Nasional (BN).
“If we truly want to follow the Sarawak model, then all national parties, including BN and PH, must be rejected.
“But Sabah is different. Here, stability is built through cooperation between BN, PH, and local parties,” he said in a Facebook post.
In Sarawak, the ruling coalition Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) comprises Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu, Parti Rakyat Sarawak, Progressive Democratic Party, and Sarawak United People’s Party.
GPS currently has a commanding 80 seats in the 82-seat legislative assembly, with DAP sitting in the opposition with the remaining two, despite being allies at the federal level.
Salleh, who is also Sabah Umno treasurer, also stressed the importance of staying grounded in reality instead of being “swayed by distorted narratives”.
“BN and PH are the pillars of the Madani government at the federal level. It is impossible to separate them because their objectives are the same: stability, development, and the future of the people.
“What matters now is stability and the future of the people – not divisive politics. Stability is not achieved by choosing sides, but by uniting behind a common purpose,” he added.
Both BN and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) are courting PH for an alliance for the state polls. While PH has said it will decide on the matter closer to the polls, its elected representatives continue to be part of chief minister Hajiji Noor’s state Cabinet.
GRS is part of the federal coalition which comprises PH, BN, GPS, as well as several minor parties and independents. However, in Sabah, BN is part of the opposition while Hajiji’s government has the support of five Umno members. - FMT
