Rm2m Per Psc Subang Mp Moots Increased Allocation Under Budget 2026
Subang MP Wong Chen today urged the government to increase the proposed allocation for all 10 parliamentary select committees from the RM500,000 each as Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced under Budget 2026.
Wong, as head of the Parliamentary Special Select Committee on International Affairs and Security, instead proposed a sum of RM2 million each - from a total RM220 million allocated for Parliament operations next year.
“The government is a reformist government. But if we don’t get enough budget, it’s hard for us to do our job,” Wong said during a press conference in Parliament, alongside Ipoh Timur MP Howard Lee and Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Abdul Rashid, both members of his PSC.
“At the very least, we’re asking for RM2 million per PSC - even RM1 million would be acceptable - so we can bring in experts from Japan and Thailand to brief us and conduct proper hearings," he said.
Wong (above) also reminded Anwar that former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob had previously allocated RM1 million for each parliamentary select committee.

“You need to understand, commissions in Indonesia get RM10 million. We’re only asking for RM2 million - that’s not a lot in the larger context," he added.
Wong joked he did not intend to "hijack" the press conference initially called by Lee with his call for increased allocations, but the DAP MP supported the proposal as one which would benefit the committee's functions.
Honest broker
Earlier, Wong formally received the KLPC 2025 "communique" or formal statement from think tank Iman Research, which called for Malaysia to strengthen its institutional capacity in peace facilitation, mediation, and collaboration with Asean and like-minded international partners.
Among others, Wong noted Malaysia's role in brokering peace through hosting negotiations towards resolving over four decades of insurgency in southern Thailand.
“Malaysia is seen as an honest broker in the region. On the issue of southern Thailand, our engagement has always been aimed at achieving long-term peace,” Wong said.
He added that his committee would seek a government briefing and renewed commitment to facilitate new peace talks, following earlier initiatives under Thai former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
“We’ll have to wait a bit as Thailand is expected to hold its general election in the first quarter of next year.
"In the meantime, our committee will continue our work, request briefings from the government, and possibly call Iman Research again,” he added. - Mkini
