Rm200 000 Extortion Case Three More Cops Nabbed
Sources said the three, aged between 30 and 40, also from the Pasir Mas police station, were arrested at the MACC office here yesterday evening. - NSTP/Sharifah Mahsinah AbdullahKOTA BARU: Three more policemen were detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to assist investigations into an RM200,000 extortion case, bringing the total number of those detained to five.
Sources said the three, aged between 30 and 40, also from the Pasir Mas police station, were arrested at the MACC office here yesterday evening.
The trio were of the ranks Sergeant, Corporal and Lance Corporal and believed to be from the same division of the first senior officer caught by MACC on Thursday.
Kelantan MACC director Rosli Husain confirmed the latest arrest of the policemen, saying that investigations were still ongoing.
The policemen were later remanded for four days at the Kota Baru magistrate's court today.
The remand order which would be end on July 15 (Thursday), was obtained before magistrate Nor Faezah Abdullah under Section 117 of Criminal Procedure Code.
The same magistrate also allowed a remand extension of another three days on the senior police officer with the rank of Assistant Superintendent who was the first detained by MACC.
The 48-year-old ASP was detained by MACC last Thursday for allegedly extorting RM200,000 from suspected drug pushers and has been remanded since then.
Following his arrest, MACC detained another officer, also aged 48, with the rank of Deputy Superintendent (DSP) to assist investigations into the case.
He has been remanded for five days until tomorrow.
It is learnt that the family of the drug suspects came up with RM100,000 the same month they asked for help.
The RM100,000 was later given to the ASP by a woman who was caught with her husband in possession of a huge amount of drugs three months ago. - NST
