Resign As Minister Only If Pm Instructs Mat Sabu

Amanah president Mohamad Sabu said today that he will only resign as Agriculture and Food Security Minister if instructed to do so by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Apart from that, he said there was no need for him to take such an action.
“That’s only if the prime minister asks,” said the Kota Raja MP at a press conference after officiating the 2024 Amanah National Convention in Klang, Selangor, today.
Mohamad, also known as Mat Sabu, was responding to calls by former deputy minister (Legal Affairs) in the Prime Minister’s Department, Mohamed Hanipa Maidin, who urged him to resign if the government blocks the anti-corruption rally in Kuala Lumpur today.
Hanipa previously said he spent a significant part of his life as a lawyer representing Mohamad, who had been involved in a series of peaceful protests in the past.
Therefore, Hanipa said it would be appropriate for Mohamad to resign if the rally is obstructed.
Former deputy minister (Legal Affairs) in the Prime Minister’s Department, Mohamed Hanipa MaidinResponding to the call, Mat Sabu said the former Sepang MP for Amanah is free to express his opinion.
“He is free to give his opinion, and that is part of a democratic world,” he said briefly.
‘Free to demonstrate’
Mat Sabu said Amanah has no issue with the planned anti-corruption rally and further encouraged public participation.
“This is a democracy, and we are free to demonstrate. For anyone who wants to participate, there is no problem. It’s just that we have a convention right now. Otherwise, some of us might have attended. There’s no issue,” he added.
The rally called “Himpunan Rakyat Benci Rasuah” will start outside the Sogo shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur at 2.30pm before proceeding to Dataran Merdeka.
Organisers representing 50 organisations previously held a similar New Year’s Eve protest in Kota Kinabalu with the same demands for the government and authorities to urgently act against politically linked corruption cases. - Mkini
