Putting Positive Spin On Forked Tongue Stereotype Indians Make Good Lawyers Because They Re Great Orators
EVEN the most negative of stereotypes can be debunked with what is deemed to be an alternative perspective.
This seems to be the counter-argument of TikToker Thaqib Shaker (@thaqibshaker) who challenged the notion that Indians have forked tongues and are prone to manipulating their words.
In a 41-second clip, the media officer for Bukit Bendera MP Syarleena Abdul Rashid noted that this pre-conceived notion should be viewed as a strength for Indians were known to be blessed with the gift of the gab which enables them to be good orators with sound debating skills.

The self-proclaimed commentator of sorts pointed to the fact that many people turn to legal counsel of Indian descent when faced with judicial matters. It is this ability to argue a point that makes them formidable lawyers who win cases, he argued.
“It was us who are unable to face up to the challenge when they make a point,” he hammered home.
Contending that he preferred to take a different perspective, the former journalist warned that “people shouldn’t be too quick to disparage the Indian community because when faced with problems, it is the Indian lawyer that you seek out”.
The contrarian view of the DAP-inclined Thaqib drew plenty of praises in that he adopted a different perspective that is positively refreshing as well as being open minded about it.

Concurring with the poster, one commenter further claimed that Indians are also skilled in various fields, thus also excelling as medical doctors and English teachers.
It was indeed a strength the way the Malays are well-versed in the arts, handicrafts and decorative design.

A commenter also sought to take another spin on Indians being manipulative with words by claiming they were just “long winded” but with “no ill-intent”.

It was also succinctly pointed out by one observer that current Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also had great orating skills.

While acknowledging Indian lawyers’ fearsome rep in court, one commenter begged to differ on the forked tongue stereotype based on personal experiences. It was also added that such legal skills came with a hefty price tag.

One commenter cited that even disgraced former PM Datuk Seri Najib Razak employed Indian legal counsel. Editor’s note: Najib’s initial defence team consisted of lawyers of different races.

High-profile cases aside, there is indeed a perception that many Indians gravitate towards the legal profession as pointed out by the poster. Isn’t it better to celebrate their achievements than denigrate fellow Malaysians with poisonous invective?
