PSB president Wong Soon Koh said merging with PDP would see them becoming one of the largest parties within GPS. (Facebook pic)PETALING JAYA: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), which is said to be dissolving soon, hopes to be part of the government in the future.
According to The Borneo Post, PSB president Wong Soon Koh pointed out that the party’s elected representatives no longer sat in the opposition bloc during the last state assembly sitting.
However, Wong acknowledged that it would take time for PSB’s leaders or members to become part of the federal or state administration.
“Due to political changes, PSB is forced to reassess its political role in a more realistic perspective to promote closer unity in the government.
“We at PSB chose to play a more responsible role by supporting the unity government led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the state government in prioritising the people under premier Abang Johari Openg,” he was quoted as saying.
On Dec 24, PSB deputy president Johnical Rayong Ngipa said the party would be dissolved before Chinese New Year while its members would join the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), a Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) component, en bloc.
Rayong said Wong told him that they had been given the “green light” to join PDP.
However, GPS chairman Abang Johari said the “green light” did not come from the ruling state coalition and that the matter was between PSB and PDP.
Wong said PDP and PSB shared a common goal of seeking to improve the standard of living and income of Sarawakians, adding that minor differences would not hinder their cooperation.
The Bawang Assan assemblyman said PSB’s 80,000 members and PDP’s 100,000 meant that a merger would see them becoming one of the largest parties within GPS. - FMT
