No Need To Demand Unity Govt In Johor Says Umno Youth
Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh said Johor residents are more interested to see how they can benefit from the current state government.KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh has dismissed a demand by an Amanah delegate for a unity government to be formed in Johor.
Akmal said the Barisan Nasional-led Johor government is already stable and functioning well.
“More importantly, the people want to see that the current state government can function effectively, and the benefits they can reap from it,” he told reporters after launching Umno Youth’s flood relief mission to Kelantan at Menara Dato Onn here today.
He was commenting on Johor Amanah delegate Zuhan Zaid’s call for the party to send a “signal” to demand the formation of a unity government at the state level.
At Amanah’s national convention last weekend, Zuhan said Pakatan Harapan needs to be in the state government, even though BN dominates the 56-seat Johor legislative assembly.
In the Johor state elections in March last year, BN won more than a two-thirds majority with 40 seats. PH won 12, with DAP winning 10, and PKR and Amanah one each.
Commenting on the flood situation in the east coast, Akmal said Umno Youth is ready to cooperate with PAS Youth to ensure the success of relief efforts.
“It’s a humanitarian issue. When it comes to humanity, we don’t discriminate. We don’t only help our supporters, but everyone.
“We welcome working with PAS Youth, Amanah or any other parties who wish to help. We’re ready (to work together),” he said.
He said aid worth RM40,000, including food supplies, has been gathered for the initial round of assistance for the flood victims in Kelantan. - FMT
