Police To Question Guan Eng Tomorrow
Police will question DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng tomorrow over a Pakatan Harapan joint statement about the emergency proclamation.
Lim’s lawyer RSN Rayer, who is also the Jelutong MP, confirmed that the interview will take place at the Timur Laut district police headquarters in Penang.
The interview will be conducted by a team from Bukit Aman. The investigation against Lim was first reported on Feb 23.
It was later revealed that PKR president Anwar Ibrahim was also being investigated involving the same statement. Anwar was already questioned by police on Feb 26.
Both men, along with Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, were joint signatories of the Harapan statement on Jan 12.
In the statement, the Harapan leaders disagreed with the government's decision to proclaim a nationwide emergency.
They also urged Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin not to “hide behind” Covid-19 after losing his majority in the Dewan Rakyat.
"We are of the view that Muhyiddin's action to propose an emergency when he has lost the support of the majority of MPs, including from Machang and Padang Rengas, is not acceptable at all.
"Do not hide behind Covid-19 and burden the people with a declaration of emergency for the sake of saving yourself," the Harapan leaders said last month.
Since then, Muhyiddin has regained a razor-thin majority in the House following the defection of another two PKR MPs.
Muhyiddin had maintained that the emergency proclamation, which also saw the suspension of Parliament, was necessary to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
He promised to hold elections after the pandemic is resolved. The emergency expires in August. - Mkini
