The appointment of Perikatan Nasional secretary-general is the prerogative of the coalition chairperson, said Bersatu supreme council member Dr Afif Bahardin.
He said this after several PAS leaders appeared to be against PN chief Muhyiddin Yassin’s idea of appointing Azmin Ali to the post.
“As for the PN secretary-general post, if you look at the coalition’s constitution, it comes under the prerogative of the coalition chairperson.
“The chairperson has the right to appoint (without consultation)…it’s his prerogative,” Afif (above) told Malaysiakini today.
Earlier, PAS MP Ahmad Marzuk Shaary said Muhyiddin’s plan to appoint Azmin to the post was a “mere proposal”, adding the PN supreme council had yet to discuss the matter.
This came after PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden proposed that the party’s secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan become PN’s new secretary-general yesterday.

On that note, Afif stressed that Azmin would be a good fit for the job as his vast experience can be utilised to rejuvenate PN.
Azmin Ali“Based on experience, Azmin has good ties with PAS. He proved this when he managed to defend the party’s lawmakers during the political crisis that took place when Selangor was administered by Pakatan Rakyat.
“He enjoys a good rapport with Selangor PAS and we can see how state PN is doing a great job in defending the rights of Selangor folk in the state assembly,” the Taman Medan assemblyperson added. - Mkini
