Pm S Silence Not An Option Amid Rising Challenges Anwar
Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has raised concerns over an increasing number of issues plaguing the country and said Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob cannot remain silent.
He said among the issues include the troubled rollout of the country's 5G network under Digital Nasional Berhad, the staggering multi-billion ringgit MRT projects and charges of bribery in France over the sale of the Scorpene submarines to Malaysia.
This was on top of the questionable decision to drop charges against Serba Dinamik in favour of a fine despite the oil and gas firm being accused of falsifying documents, the MACC investigating a judge who convicted ex-prime minister Najib Abdul Razak and the ongoing 1MDB case in the US.
"The issues I listed need immediate action and explanation. The prime minister should not remain silent at a time when these pressing issues are plaguing the nation and people.
"It also goes against the spirit of the memorandum of understanding (between Pakatan Harapan and the government)," the PKR president said.
Anwar cautioned that the country could face difficulties bouncing back if these issues are not properly resolved.
He also noted the rising price of goods and the ringgit's decline which he said was an indication that people lacked confidence in the country's economic direction.
"The economic sluggishness (Malaysia is facing), as well as our gross domestic product, economic growth, poverty rate and unemployment rate, need to be scrutinised, rectified and strengthened. This is in contrast to Indonesia which is attracting direct foreign investment.
"I urge the people to take recognisance, reject this sluggishness and demand a change," he added. - Mkini
