Pm Received Wrong Legal Advice On Kampung Sg Baru Compensation
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has received incorrect legal advice from his lawyers regarding compensation for Kampung Sungai Baru landowners, claimed former Federal Territories minister Khalid Abdul Samad.
He said Anwar’s legal team had wrongly informed the premier that if compensation was increased for landowners who had not agreed to the terms, the compensation for those who did accept the offer would also need to be adjusted accordingly.
“I raised this matter directly with PMX (Anwar). He said he was informed by his lawyers that if compensation is raised for those who disagreed, then compensation across the board would have to be realigned, replaced or revised.
“I believe that is incorrect advice because this involves two separate processes. Those who agreed have already concluded their part and received the offered compensation.
“For those who did not agree, the process to determine compensation is a different one,” he said at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

PM Anwar Ibrahim in Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur circa 2022The Federal Territories Amanah chairperson made the remarks while commenting on his call for higher compensation for landowners in the area, after the Valuation and Property Services Department allegedly issued low valuations during the Perikatan Nasional administration.
Continue to fight for people’s rights
Khalid also urged Titiwangsa MP Johari Abdul Ghani to continue championing the rights of Kampung Baru residents, including those in Kampung Sungai Baru, and the development of the area.
He said Johari, as an MP and a cabinet member, could sit down with Anwar to resolve the matter.
“With the Finance Ministry under the prime minister’s purview, Anwar can instruct the valuation department to clarify how the valuation was made.
“If it’s found to be unreasonable, the amount should be increased - up to RM1,000 per square foot.
“Previously, land adjacent to Kampung Sungai Baru was acquired for the construction of the Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway, and the price was far above RM450 per square foot,” Khalid pointed out.

Titiwangsa MP Johari Abdul GhaniThe former minister also said that he had presented the Kampung Baru redevelopment plan to Anwar in the past.
“PMX is aware. We presented it during the planning stage for the redevelopment.
“I think he should review it and instruct Federal Territories Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa to take appropriate action,” Khalid added. - Mkini
