Pm Pays Last Respects To Samy Vellu

He was joined by the former MIC president’s son, Vell Paari, and MIC deputy president M Saravanan.PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has paid his last respects to former MIC president S Samy Vellu, who passed away this morning.
Ismail arrived at the former Sungai Siput MP’s house at Jalan Ipoh in Kuala Lumpur at about 12.30pm and was met by Samy Vellu’s son, Vell Paari.
Also present was MIC deputy president and human resources minister M Saravanan.
In a Facebook post, Ismail paid tribute to the role the longest-serving MIC president had played in developing the nation’s road infrastructure when he was the works minister from 1979 to 1989 and 1995 to 2008.

He also lauded the way Samy Vellu had struggled to help Malaysian Indians and unite the community, while serving as a long-time mentor to other MIC leaders.
“He has contributed a lot to the country and the Indian community, through the establishment of the Maju Institute of Educational Development (MIED), AIMST University, and TAFE College, which have helped improve the lives of the community in this country.
“I want to express my condolences to his family members. His contributions to the nation will always be remembered,” he said.
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi also offered his condolences over Samy Vellu’s death, saying his contributions towards the development of the Indian community will always be remembered.
Members of the public who wish to pay their last respects may do so from 2pm at Samy Vellu’s residence at 19, Lengkongan Vethavanam, Batu 3 1/2, Jalan Ipoh, 51100 Kuala Lumpur.
The cortege will leave at 3pm tomorrow and arrive at the DBKL crematorium in Cheras at 4pm. - FMT
