Honour Samy Vellu S Legacy Clear His Name Of Maika And Mied Scandals
MIC should honour the legacy of its former party president, the late S Samy Vellu, by clearing his name from the Maika Holdings Berhad and Maju Institute of Educational Development (Mied) scandals, a PKR leader suggested today.
As such, Kuala Selangor division chief Thiban Subramaniam urged the government to establish a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) into the matter, adding that PKR was ready to assist MIC on the matter.
"Tributes poured in for Samy, who died at age 86. His statesmanship and contribution to the nation and community were legendary.
"Although he left us with a sterling legacy, some allegations involving him remain as black marks in his political career.
“Many are aware of the allegations that Samy Vellu had hijacked nine million Telekom Malaysia shares from the original 10 million shares allocated to Maika and the scandal involving Mied," Thiban (above, right) said in a statement.
Two days ago, Samy died peacefully at his home in Kuala Lumpur.
‘Childish’ attacks on Anwar
On a related matter, Thiban criticised MIC president SA Vigneswaran's "childish" attack on PKR president Anwar Ibrahim after the latter said that Pakatan Harapan would conduct a forensic audit on Maika, Mied, and the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (Mitra), should the coalition return to power.
ADSTo Anwar’s message, Vigneswaran retorted by saying that Anwar should first “audit” Harapan’s manifesto for the Indian community in the last general election and see how much of it got fulfilled.
Responding to the MIC president, Thiban said Anwar was not the prime minister when Harapan ruled and the coalition was toppled after 22 months in power, with MIC's help as well.
As such, many resolutions the coalition worked on pertaining to the Indian community did not materialise.
"It is worth noting that Harapan announced that it would resolve the red IC issue, pledging to give citizenships to red IC holders aged 60 and above.
"After the Harapan government collapsed, we are uncertain (on the development) of the red IC issue.
“However, MIC is busy politicking and holding gatherings and events, with poor Indians still struggling, walking up and down the National Registration Department to get citizenship," said Thiban. - Mkini
