Pm No Pay Hike For Lazy Problematic Civil Servants
Civil servants who are lazy and those with disciplinary issues will be excluded from getting automatic salary hikes, said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
He regarded the current remuneration system as unfair to civil servants who are dedicated to their jobs because even the lazy could enjoy an annual salary increase.
Thus, he announced that the government would introduce a mechanism to deny problematic officers from getting such benefits in the future.
“Like now, for example, (the salary hike) is given annually. Even those who are sluggish or absent from work, and those with disciplinary problems still see their salaries increased automatically.
“So now we want to remind them it will not be automatic (anymore).
“Perhaps it will be for the 95 percent (who do their jobs), while for the other four or five percent - who are slow and problematic - we will introduce a mechanism to deny them from getting this benefit.
“It is unfair when the lazy can enjoy the same automatic salary increase as those who work hard. So we have to consider this,” he said.
Anwar was speaking at the closing ceremony of Program Madani Rakyat (North Zone) in Penang.
According to the prime minister, while the government has agreed to give the highest pay rise in history to civil servants, it has to come with increased efficiency.
“It is not true that we are giving a pay hike while maintaining the same old way of doing things.
“No, we increase salaries with reform of the civil service’s efficiency, capability, and performance.”
Last week, Anwar announced that civil servants will get a salary hike of more than 13 percent starting December this year.
The increase under the revised Public Service Remuneration System will involve an allocation of over RM10 billion next year and would be the highest in history. - Mkini
