Please Grant Amnesty To Those Bloggers Who Helped You As Well As Those Who Did Not Help You
Here is something (edited, truncated) from Murray Hunter:
Please grant amnesty to those bloggers who helped you
By Murray Hunter
I was saddened to read the plea by blogger Hussein Hamid, the legendary Steadyaku47 today on his blog. Hussein was one of the influential bloggers who fought the good fight for Pakatan Harapan. He kept exposing the wrongs of the Barisan Nasional government for 10 years, and exposed issues most others were afraid to talk about.
Under Ismail Sabri’s tenure as prime minister, sedition charges were laid against Hussein for political reasons. Ismail Sabri was the person who started investigations against former attorney general Tommy Thomas for sedition, which was Ismail Sabri’s favorite political tool against his political adversaries.
Hussein, under pending sedition charges would be arrested upon arrival at KLIA, or not even allowed onto the flight to Malaysia by the airline. Hussein is not the only blogger who is in trouble with the authorities. It is believed blogger Mariam Mokhtar, a Malaysian citizen is blacklisted from returning to Malaysia.
These bloggers are Malaysian citizens, who many consider are patriots. The worst punishment ever given to a Malaysian is forbidding them to return to their Tanah Air, their true home.
.. its time to bring these bloggers home freely, so they too can see your government from inside the country. Call an amnesty so they can come home.
My Comments :
One of my books was banned by Najib in 2016. They never spoke to me about my book or gave me a right of reply before they banned it. But at the time of their banning it the book was already OUT OF PRINT for almost 10 years. (The book was published in 2006). In other words they banned a book that was no more in print. Real clowns.
But subsequent to that, after the UMNO/BN was thrown out of power I never appealed the ban. To hell with these donkeys. I already sold over 30,000 copies of that book in about two years - considered a best seller for an English language book written by a Malaysian author.
But banning a human being from his land of birth is not the same as banning a book. Or threatening him with arrest upon his setting foot back in his land of birth. That is cruelty indeed.
It is also a reflection of the IQ levels of the people in power. Why do you want to ban words that are written down on pieces of paper? Are you so stupid that simply reading pieces of paper with words written on them can destroy your society?
What about those who blow up people with C4 explosives? Or those who abduct people in broad daylight and make them disappear ? Or those who steal billions of Ringgit of taxpayers money? Or those who are ISIS terrorists? They are greater threats to our entire society. Shouldnt they be banned or prevented from entering the country? Yet they still walk among us.
So where is your sense of right and wrong? Where is your sense of justice? Let me rephrase : what exactly is your idea of right, wrong, justice and injustice. Or are you in this category as well :
Banning books, blocking off blogs that criticise the gomen of the day, taking action against people just for making a speech or writing some words - cannot even be dignified with intelligent discourse anymore.
We cannot dignify low mentality behaviour like this with any kind of intelligent retort. This is the behaviour of the "cebuk dalam sungai" people. "Cebuk dalam sungai" refers village idiots who have to wash their backsides in the river - because they do not have proper toilets in their homes. The yokels.
noun: yokel; plural noun: yokels
an uneducated and unsophisticated person from the countryside.
The only difference in this country is that many of them are actually educated, some with strings of degrees. But they are still unsophisticated. Cebuk dalam sungai.
Their behaviour is crude, crass, boorish and perhaps uncivilised.
So will they grant amnesty to those bloggers "who helped you as well as those who did not help you"?Will they stop arresting schoolchildren who post TikTok videos? Will they stop banning words written on paper? Will they stop arresting people who speak against them?I think it is a tall order. Cebuk dalam sungai.
The views expressed are those of the writer and do not necessarily reflect those of MMKtT.
