The Kuala Lumpur High Court dismissed Najib Razak’s application to postpone his trial so he can attend parliament.PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Najib Razak has claimed that Pakatan Harapan is trying to stop him from attending parliament, after the Kuala Lumpur High Court dismissed his application to attend the ongoing session
In a Facebook post, Najib, who is facing charges of corruption and abuse of power, said during the Barisan Nasional era, cases involving PH leaders such as Lim Guan Eng, Lim Kit Siang, the late Karpal Singh and the “future 8th PM”, were allowed postponement when parliament was sitting
In the PH era, he said, his case was not allowed a postponement while parliament was ongoing and debating national matters
“But even if I go to parliament, PH has tabled a motion to suspend me as an MP for three months. PH is stopping me from going to parliament,” he said, adding that PH wanted to suspend him, yet accuse him of being afraid to enter parliament
Previously, it was reported that a motion was being pushed through to suspend Najib for allegedly leaking the Felda White Paper which was embargoed, but he was instead referred to Parliament’s Rights and Privileges Committee
“(They) ask me why I use social media and not parliament to raise issues affecting the people,” he said
Najib said that when he raised issues over the social media, there was nothing to stop anyone from responding
Earlier today, High Court judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali rejected Najib’s application to postpone his hearing in connection with SRC International, saying it was uncertain when voting for motions, bills and constitutional amendments would take place
He said the dismissal was not a question of whether the court was stopping Najib from attending Parliament, adding that the Pekan MP “is also facing several charges”. - FMT
