Perlis Pas Youth Hurt By Presence Of Zakir Naik Student

PAS MUKTAMAR | Perlis PAS Youth reiterated its stand against Muhammad Zamri Vinoth Kalimuthu, a protégé of controversial preacher Zakir Naik, who spoke as a special guest at the muktamar's launch yesterday.

"The Perlis PAS Youth is hurt by the leaders' move to allow Zamri Vinoth to speak while delegates were still busy debating.

"By right, we should have finished all debates of the reports, but a few of our friends were cut short to give room to Zamri," said Mohamad Azreen.

He said that while the members have no issues with Zamri's speech calling for solidarity with Zakir, the 35-year-old preacher had in the past allegedly made repeated negative comments against Perlis PAS and the party as a whole.

"He branded Perlis PAS as the mastermind behind the issue of the sacking of imams. We were also accused of being the mastermind behind uprisings against the Sultan.

"This is why we are hurt by Zamri Vinoth's presence," Mohamad Azreen said
He urged the party's leadership to thoroughly screen individuals invited to speak at the muktamar.

"Maybe for the leaders, there are no problems, but it is a problem especially for us from Perlis.

"We must check those invited to speak, who is the person, their background ...to avoid any problems," he added.

Malaysiakini yesterday reported that Perlis PAS Youth member
Amirul Jufri Mat Saman had during the debate of the financial report similarly expressed unhappiness over Zamri's presence.

Amirul Jufri's dissatisfaction with the invitation is believed to stem from an incident surrounding the torching of Perlis mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin's car on March 22.

Following the incident, Perlis police had remanded several Jabatan Amal members to assist in their investigations. - Mkini
